Disembarkation of a Japanese national from a cruise ship where Hantavirus cases had been identified and Cooperation by the UK Government

- On May 11 (May 10 local time), one Japanese national who disembarked at the Canary Islands, Spain, from m/v Hondius, where Hantavirus cases had been identified, arrived in the United Kingdom after being provided with a spare seat on a charter flight arranged by the UK Government.
- The individual will undergo health monitoring by local health authorities for up to 45 days in the United Kingdom, based on WHO recommendations. As we understand, the individual is in good health.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdon of Great Britain signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Mutual Assistance to Japanese and British Nationals Abroad on April 20 this year. The cooperation provided by the UK on this occasion is based on this Memorandum and the first cooperation case after signing.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will continue to respond appropriately from the perspective of protection of Japanese nationals and prevention of the spread of infectious diseases, in coordination with the British authorities, the Cabinet Agency for Infectious Disease Crisis Management, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and other relevant organizations.
