Japan-Jordan Foreign Ministers' Telephone Talk

On April 8, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Ayman Al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
- The two ministers exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East. They welcomed today’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran as a positive development, and shared the view on the importance of reaching a final agreement at an early stage through dialogue. Furthermore, they concurred that Japan and Jordan will continue to communicate closely with each other so that de-escalation of the situation would be realized.
- In addition, Minister Motegi expressed his appreciation for Jordan’s cooperation in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals in the region and requested continued cooperation. In response, Minister Safadi stated that Jordan would continue to spare no effort in cooperating to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in Jordan.
- Furthermore, the two ministers discussed the safe navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, the situation in Palestine including support for the rebuilding of Gaza and the situation in Lebanon, as well as the bilateral cooperation. They concurred to continue close communication.
