Signing and Exchanging of Notes for Official Security Assistance (OSA) FY2025 Project to the Kingdom of Thailand

On March 27 (same day local time), in Bangkok, the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. OTAKA Masato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand, and General Tharapong Malakam, Permanent Secretary for Defence of the Kingdom of Thailand, signed and exchanged notes for 500 million yen for Japan’s “Official Security Assistance (OSA)” FY2025 project.

  1. Thailand is located at a strategic crossroads in the Indochinese Peninsula, and important for regional security. Thailand is also an important partner for Japan in realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). As "Comprehensive Strategic Partners," Japan and Thailand are strengthening cooperation in a wide range of fields, including security.
  2. Thailand has been affected by many natural disasters in recent years, and this project provides the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the Royal Thai Navy with disaster response and maritime search and rescue (SAR) equipment. It is expected to contribute to enhancing their capabilities for disaster response, SAR, and lifesaving.
  3. This project is of great importance in contributing to enhancing security capabilities of Thailand and maintaining and strengthening regional peace and stability, as well as reinforcing cooperation between Japan and Thailand.

OSA is a grant aid cooperation framework which provides equipment and supplies as well as assistance for the development of infrastructures to armed forces and other related organizations of recipient countries. By enhancing their security and deterrence capabilities, OSA aims to strengthen our security cooperation with the recipient countries, to create a desirable security environment for Japan, and to contribute to maintaining and strengthening international peace and security.
