Meeting between Senior Deputy Minister Namazu and Under Secretary Hooker

On March 26 in a suburb of Paris, France, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs NAMAZU Hiroyuki held a meeting with Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. Building on the recent U.S.-Japan summit meeting, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs NAMAZU Hiroyuki and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker exchanged views on the international situation and discussed shared interests and led a U.S.-Japan Dialogue on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific to discuss priorities and align approaches to the Indo-Pacific region.
  2. The Japanese side outlined its perspective on strategically upgrading the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) concept as this year marks the 10th anniversary since its inception. The two officials confirmed the importance of proactively advancing concrete initiatives together between Japan and the U.S., and cooperating with third countries to build capacity for enhancing regional autonomy and resilience.
  3. Both sides decided to further advance cooperation with like-minded countries. They committed once again to engage regularly to advance efforts to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region, including by holding the second U.S.-Japan FOIP Dialogue later this year.
