Grant Assistance to the Kingdom of Cambodia: Signing and Exchange of Notes Concerning Grant Aid “the Project for the Expantion of Water Supply System in Ta Kmau”
March 19, 2026
On March 19 (same day local time), in Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, signed and exchanged notes for the revision of the grant amount limit of “the Project for the Expantion of Water Supply System in Ta Kmau” to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
- This project aims to improve water supply services by expanding water supply facilities in Ta Kmau, where the population is rapidly increasing near the capital Phnom Penh, thereby contributing to the improvement of living conditions in Ta Kmau and Phnom Penh and the promotion of social development in Cambodia.
- With regard to this project, the Government of Japan signed the Exchange of Notes in March 2020 to provide grant aid of up to 3.421 billion yen. However, due to the deterioration of raw water quality caused by rapid population growth and urban development that exceeded initial projections, additional funds were necessary to implement urgent countermeasures. Accordingly, an additional grant of 147 million yen was provided, bringing the total grant amount of the grant to up to 3.568 billion yen.
