Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU by H.E. Mr. Lou Kim Chhun, Chairman and CEO of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, Kingdom of Cambodia

On March 16, commencing at 10:50 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Lou Kim Chhun, Chairman and CEO of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, Kingdom of Cambodia and his delegation, who are visiting Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU welcomed their visit to Japan in this memorable year marking the 30th anniversary since Japan began its assistance to the Sihanoukville Port, and stated that Japan will continue to cooperate so that the Sihanoukville Port, a symbol of Japan-Cambodia bilateral cooperation, function as a hub port in the Mekong region.
- In response, Chairman Lou expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance to date and stated that the port has significantly contributed to Cambodia’s economic development. He also expressed his intention to continue working with Japan, drawing on Japan’s various expertise, for the further development of the port.
- Both sides confirmed that they will continue to cooperate on the development of Sihanoukville Port, which serves as a gateway for international trade and plays a strategic role in strengthening maritime connectivity.

At Sihanoukville Port, the only deep-sea port in Cambodia, Japan has been providing multifaceted cooperation, including the development of container terminals and support for port management and operations.
