Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Dr. Julio Frenk, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

On March 5, commencing at 10:00 a.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Dr. Julio Frenk, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister HORII welcomed Chancellor Frenk’s visit to Japan and expressed his appreciation for UCLA’s longstanding acceptance of many Japanese students. He stated that people-to-people exchanges and academic cooperation are a strong and enduring foundation of Japan–U.S. relations, and expressed his desire to further strengthen such cooperation.
- In response, Chancellor Frenk noted that UCLA intends to continue accepting many Japanese students and expressed his interest in pursuing various forms of cooperation with the Government of Japan, including the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of areas, including people-to-people and academic exchanges between Japan and the United States.
