Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Dr. Julio Frenk, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

On March 5, commencing at 10:00 a.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Dr. Julio Frenk, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII welcomed Chancellor Frenk’s visit to Japan and expressed his appreciation for UCLA’s longstanding acceptance of many Japanese students. He stated that people-to-people exchanges and academic cooperation are a strong and enduring foundation of Japan–U.S. relations, and expressed his desire to further strengthen such cooperation.
  2. In response, Chancellor Frenk noted that UCLA intends to continue accepting many Japanese students and expressed his interest in pursuing various forms of cooperation with the Government of Japan, including the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of areas, including people-to-people and academic exchanges between Japan and the United States.
