Japan-Omani Foreign Ministers’ Telephone talk

On March 3, from 6:25 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, regarding the current situation surrounding Iran, Minister Motegi stated that he highly appreciates Oman’s persistent diplomatic efforts, including mediation by Foreign Minister Badr himself in the consultations between the United States and Iran. Minister Motegi added that the early settlement of the situation and the resolution of issues through dialogue is of utmost importance.
  2. Minister Motegi, expressing grave concern over the deterioration of the regional situation surrounding Iran, also stated that Japan strongly urges Iran to cease actions that destabilize the region, including the development of nuclear weapons and attacks on neighboring countries, and to pursue a diplomatic resolution. He further expressed Japan’s intention to coordinate and cooperate with Oman in ensuring the safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz adjacent to Oman and the safety of Japanese nationals residing in the region.
  3. In response, Minister Badr emphasized the importance of returning to diplomatic resolutions through dialogue and expressed his intention to work closely with Japan toward the early settlement of the situation and the peace and stability of the region.
