General Elections in the People's Republic of Bangladesh

- On February 13, the People's Republic of Bangladesh Election Commission announced the result of the 13th General Election held on February 12. Japan welcomes the General Election being carried out in a credible and largely peaceful manner.
- From Japan, an election observer mission headed by Mr. WATANABE Masato, former Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, consisting of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh as well as an external expert, conducted monitoring activities on site. As far as Japan’s Election Observer Mission was able to inspect on site, the election process was conducted in accordance with procedures.
- Japan welcomes the further promotion of Bangladesh’s effort as a democratic nation. Japan is committed to continuing our cooperation based on the “Strategic Partnership” toward the development and prosperity of Bangladesh as well as further development of bilateral relations.
