The 3rd Japan-Cambodia Senior Officials’ Talks

On December 25, Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held the 3rd Japan-Cambodia Foreign Senior Officials’ Talks with H.E. Mr. Ung Rachana, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. On the same day, Senior Deputy Minister NAMAZU made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The overview of the consultation is as follows:

  1. During the consultation, both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral relations including security and defense cooperation, New Cooperation Approach, Economic Co-creation Package and economic security, as well as democratic development and governance including organized fraud, to strengthen the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” between Japan and Cambodia, with a view toward realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
  2. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international affairs including the Indo-Pacific region and confirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in regional and international fora. Furthermore, regarding the border situation between Cambodia and Thailand, Senior Deputy Minister NAMAZU urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint and to seek a peaceful resolution through dialogue, and stated that the Government of Japan will continue to make efforts to promote de-escalation of the situation.
