The 16th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation

On December 24, local time, Mr. IWAMOTO Keiichi, Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held the 16th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation during his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran with Mr. Ali Asghar Mohammadi, Assistant to Foreign Minister and Director General, Asia and Oceania Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- During this meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional affairs.
- Regarding Iran’s nuclear issue, Director-General IWAMOTO emphasized the importance of the early resumption of talks between the United States and Iran toward a resolution of the issue through dialogue, and urged Iran to immediately resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Director-General IWAMOTO also stated that Japan will continue to make diplomatic efforts for the peace and stability of the Middle East region. In response, Director-General Mohammadi explained the position of Iran.
- Director-General IWAMOTO made courtesy calls on H.E. Dr. Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary, Supreme National Security Council, and H.E. Dr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, during his visit to Iran.
