Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates to Japan

On December 17, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates to Japan, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed the diversification of bilateral cooperation between Japan and the UAE beyond the energy sector, under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI). In response, Minister Jaber expressed his desire to further enhance bilateral relations and conveyed his congratulations to the success of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
- Minister MOTEGI also expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s long-standing stable supply of crude oil to Japan and for the UAE’s generosity regarding the participation of Japanese companies in the upstream development of crude oil. Both sides concurred to continue to utilize the CSPI framework to further strengthen cooperation in various fields which will serve as the foundation for the future cooperation between the two countries, including the bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) which is currently under negotiation.
- The two sides also exchanged views on regional situations and cooperation in the international fora.
