G7 + Ministerial Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support

On December 12, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the G7+ Ministerial Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support. The representatives from G7 countries, Ukraine, other countries in Europe and international organizations participated in the meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- In this meeting, the participants discussed the issue of maintaining and restoring energy infrastructure in Ukraine. They shared information on each country’s efforts and confirmed that they will provide continued assistance to Ukraine in the energy sector.
- State Minister KUNIMITSU stated that assistance in the energy sector is urgently needed as Russian Federation's intermittent attacks on energy facilities have had a negative impact on the power supply, while as a harsh winter is approaching. She also stated that, to date, Japan has supported Ukraine's energy supply and the protection of its power generation facilities through the provision of gas turbines, generators, transformers, gabions and other equipment.
- State Minister KUNIMITSU stated that, based on Ukraine’s evolving needs, especially energy sector, Japan will continue to provide tailored and seamless assistance to contribute to the better recovery of Ukraine.

This meeting is attended by ministerial-level participants from the G7, Ukraine, other European countries, and international organizations to discuss support in the energy sector for Ukraine. Meetings have been held online or in person in November 2022, January 2023, March 2023, June 2023, and September 2024.
