Courtesy call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI by Japanese Canadian Leaders Invitation Program Delegation 2025
On December 11, commencing at 1:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a delegation of the Japanese Canadians visiting Japan under “Japanese-Canadian Leaders Invitation Program 2025’ hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
- At the beginning of the meeting, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI welcomed the delegation that plays a leading role in the Japanese Canadian communities in various parts of Canada. He expressed his hope that the delegation’s visit to Japan will deepen the participants’ understanding of and their ties with Japan.
- The participants introduced their activities in their respective Japanese Canadian community and expressed their appreciation for the invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI expressed his gratitude for their daily activities and stated that Japan and Canada have strong relations in various fields, and he would like to further enhance the cooperation.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI and the delegation exchanged their views on the situation of the Japanese Canadian community, Japan-Canada relations including their cultural exchanges, and other topics in a friendly atmosphere throughout the meeting.

With the aim of strengthening relations with the Japanese Canadian community, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites Japanese Canadian leaders who are active in various fields to Japan for about one week each year. The program provides opportunities for mutual understanding through exchanges of views with Government officials, experts, and business communities and promotes understanding of Japan through visits to cultural and other facilities. The program started in 2008, and a total of 75 Japanese Canadian leaders have visited Japan to date.
