Radar illumination to Self-Defense Force aircraft by Chinese military aircraft

On December 7 in the afternoon, Mr. Funakoshi Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, summoned Mr. Wu Jianghao, Ambassador of China to Japan. On December 6, over the high seas southeast of Okinawa Island, J-15 fighter jets launched from the Chinese Navy aircraft carrier “Liaoning” intermittently illuminated by its radar F-15 fighter jets of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force that were conducting scramble to monitor the activity of these fighter jets. Vice Minister Funakoshi made a strong protest that such dangerous acts are extremely regrettable and strongly urged the Government of China to ensure that similar actions do not recur.
