On December 3, the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team Formation Ceremony in response to the damages caused by the Cyclone in Sri Lanka was held at Haneda Airport. Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks.

She expressed the Japanese Government's gratitude for the members who had gathered for the team, adding that as a healthcare professional herself, her heart was with the team. She noted that many areas were submerged and health facilities had suffered severe damage in Sri Lanka and the support for the affected people would not only be limited to medical support but would also further strengthen the long-standing relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka, which has been built on mutual assistance.
