Working Dinner between Minister for Foreign Affairs MOTEGI and H.H. Mr. Gaolathe, Vice President and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Botswana

On November 26, commencing at 7:05 p.m. for approximately 80minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a working dinner with H.H. Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, Vice President and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Botswana, who is visiting Japan upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The overview of the working dinner is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed the second visit to Japan this year by Vice President and Minister of Finance Gaolathe and expressed his hope to deepen bilateral relations with an eye on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Botswana next year. In response, Vice President and Minister of Finance Gaolathe expressed his appreciation for Japan’s hospitality during this visit, as well as his expectation for further development of the bilateral relations.
  2. Regarding the bilateral cooperation, Minister MOTEGI stated that he would like to utilize this visit to follow up on the outcomes of TICAD 9. He also stated that Japan would like to support Botswana's efforts in economic diversification and encourage investment by Japanese companies. In response, Vice President and Minister of Finance Gaolathe expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support to date and his expectation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields, including economic diversification. Both sides concurred on accelerating cooperation toward further strengthening bilateral relations.
  3. Both sides also exchanged views on various regional and international issues, including the situation in East Asia such as their policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. They confirmed that they would continue to work together.
