Deposit of the Instrument of Accession to the “International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, 1995”

On November 14 (the same day local time), the Government of Japan deposited its instrument of accession to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, 1995, to Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the IMO headquarters in London.
- This Convention aims to establish the international standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for fishing vessel personnel to ensure that such personnel are qualified and fit for their duties. The accession by Japan to this Convention is meaningful from the point of view of ensuring safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the maritime environment.
- As this Convention has already entered into force, it will become effective for Japan three months after the date of deposit of its instrument (on February 14, 2026).
