Appointment of the Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador in charge of Gaza Rebuilding Assistance

On November 6, Minister for Foreign Affairs MOTEGI Toshimitsu appointed Mr. OKUBO Takeshi, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Lebanon, as Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador in charge of Gaza Rebuilding Assistance. Ambassador Okubo has extensive experience working in the Middle East, including both Israel and Palestine, and possesses a broad network.
- Regarding the situation surrounding Gaza, Japan will continue to play a proactive role toward realizing a two-state solution by advancing the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict” by The Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, improving the humanitarian situation, and engaging in early recovery and reconstruction. In particular, Japan intends to support state-building efforts for Palestine, including Gaza reconstruction, and to dispatch personnel to a temporary governance mechanism for Gaza. The decision to appoint Ambassador Okubo came as part of these efforts.
- In the coming period, Ambassador Okubo will actively participate in relevant meetings and engage closely with countries and organizations concerned, working in coordination with the international community on Gaza’s reconstruction and the establishment of governance mechanisms.
