Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI’s Visit to the Republic of Angola

From November 9 to 13, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited the Republic of Angola to attend the 50th anniversary ceremony of the independence of the Republic of Angola. The overview of the visit is as follows:

- On November 10 (local time), Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves LOURENÇO, President of the Republic of Angola. H.E. Mr. Téte António, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola and H.E. Mr. Victor Lima, Secretary for Diplomatic Affairs and International Cooperation also attended the meeting.
During the courtesy call, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI handed over a letter from Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, to President LOURENÇO and expressed congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the independence. He also expressed gratitude for President LOURENÇO's contribution to TICAD 9 as a co-chair and stated that Japan intends to further strengthen its cooperation with Angola as a "consistently reliable partner" for Africa.
President LOURENÇO expressed congratulations on the inauguration of the new government of Japan and stated that Angola intends to make efforts with Japan and promote cooperation in order to strengthen friendly relations between Japan and Angola.
- On November 11 (local time), Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI attended the 50th anniversary ceremony of the independence of the Republic of Angola and the luncheon hosted by the President.
At the luncheon, he had brief conversations with H.E. Mr. José de Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination of Angola, H.E. Ms. Maria do Rosário Teixeira de Alva Sequeira Bragança Sambo, Minister of State for Social Affairs of Angola, Mr. Francisco Pereira Furtado, Minister of State and Head of the Military Office of Angola, H.E. Mr. Adão Francisco Correia de Almeida, Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the Office of the President of Angola, H.E. Mr. Ricardo Daniel Sandão Queiros Viegas de Abreu, Minister of Transport of Angola, and H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. Oman's Foreign Minister Badr expressed congratulations on the election of Japan's first female prime minister. Minister of Transports of Angola De Abreu expressed gratitude for contribution of Japanese companies to the Namibe Bay Comprehensive Development Project.
- During his stay in Angola, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI exchanged views with representatives of Japanese companies active in Angola, Japan International Cooperation Agency staffs, United Nations personnel, and other Japanese residents.
