State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU's Visit to Egypt as a Special Envoy of the Prime Minister (Results)
From October 31 to November 4, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayako, State Minister for Foreign Affairs visited Egypt as a Special Envoy of Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan. The overview is as follows;
1. Attendance at the Grand Egyptian Museum’s Official Opening Ceremony
On November 1, State Minister KUNIMITSU attended the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) as the Prime Minister's special envoy. The museum has been supported by Japan for the preservation and utilization of Egypt's historical cultural heritage, the development of the tourism industry through it and, the creation of employment opportunities. At the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-SISI, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, expressed gratitude for Japan's support. State Minister KUNIMITSU exchanged words with VIPs attending the ceremony, including H.E. Dr. Mahmoud ABBAS, President of Palestine, Chairperson of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Additionally, on November 2, State Minister KUNIMITSU inspected GEM. She exchanged views with Dr. Ahmed GHONEIM, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum of the Arab Republic of Egypt. They confirmed that the museum is playing a role as a symbol of Japan-Egypt cooperation and friendship.
2. Visit to Dar Al-Shifa Hospital
On November 2, State Minister KUNIMITSU, visited Dar Al-Shifa Hospital in the suburbs of Cairo, guided by Dr. Nima, WHO Representative in Egypt, and others. She actively exchanged opinions with hospital officials as a physician, and confirmed that Japan’s expertise, including the 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and medical equipment provided by Japan are contributing to improving the quality of healthcare in the region.
3. Discussion with Japanese Company Representatives
On November 2, State Minister KUNIMITSU exchanged views with representatives of Japanese companies operating in Egypt, listened to the characteristics and latest situation of the Egyptian market, as well as difficulties and challenges associated with business activities in Egypt, and discussed ways to further develop bilateral economic relations.
