Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Ms. Spehar, Assistant Secretary General (ASG) for Peacebuilding Support, the United Nations

On October 28, commencing at 3 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Ms. Elizabeth Spehar, Assistant Secretary General (ASG) for Peacebuilding Support, the United Nations. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister HORII stated that it is important for the international community to further advance peacebuilding efforts, while the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary and its role has been reviewed, and that Japan will further support activities of the UN, including through Peacebuilding Architecture Review, working closely with ASG Spehar.
- In response, ASG Spehar expressed her high appreciation for Japan’s past contributions in the field of peacebuilding and conveyed her expectation for Japan’s further contributions to the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC).
- They also discussed ways forward of Japan’s support in peacebuilding and increasing Japanese staff at the UN.
