Japan-Lithuania Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On October 23, commencing at 15:10 a.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Kęstutis BUDRYS, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, who was visiting Japan to attend the Ukraine Mine Acction Conference (UMAC) 2025.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed the active exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries, referring to the visit to Japan by President Nausėda in June this year, and expressed his intention to continue close cooperation. In response, Minister Budrys stated that he wished to further develop the bilateral relationship between Japan and Lithuania.
- The two Ministers confirmed that they would further deepen cooperation in the field of security, including through discussions toward the possibility of the conclusion of an Information Protection Agreement and Japan’s contribution to the “Demining Coalition” led by Lithuania.
- Furthermore, the two Ministers exchanged views on various regional and international issues, including the situation in Ukraine, and regional affairs in East Asia such as their policies toward North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue. They confirmed that Japan and Lithuania, as strategic partners, would continue to work closely.
