Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Grandi

On October 15, commencing at 1:10 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Mr. Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his respect for the staff members of UNHCR who stand by and assist refugees and displaced persons. He expressed his willingness to cooperate with UNHCR to improve serious humanitarian situation in the Middle East and around the globe from the perspective of "human security," as advocated by the late High Commissioner Ms. OGATA Sadako.
- In response, High Commissioner Grandi expressed his deep gratitude for Japan's long-standing support and his intention to collaborate with Japan in supporting refugees and displaced persons worldwide.
- In addition, both sides exchanged views on the promotion of the Humanitarian, Development and Peace (HDP) Nexus in support of refugees and displaced persons, as well as the significance of collaboration with the private sector.
