Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI by Mr. Jacob M. Schlesinger, President/Chief Executive Officer of the United States-Japan Foundation, and Mr. James Gannon, CEO of Peace Winds America
On October 8, commencing at 11:00 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by Mr. Jacob M. Schlesinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United States-Japan Foundation, and Mr. James Gannon, Chief Executive Officer of Peace Winds America. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri welcomed Chairman Schlesinger and CEO Gannon to Japan and expressed her respect for the long-standing contributions of the United States-Japan Foundation to promoting people-to-people exchanges between Japan and the United States, as well as of Peace Winds America to humanitarian assistance efforts around the world.
- Mr. Schlesinger and Mr. Gannon explained the current situation and future outlook of international development assistance and expressed their intention to further promote cooperation between Japan and the United States in the field of development.

Established in 1980, the United States-Japan Foundation is a grant-making organization dedicated to strengthening U.S.-Japan relations. The Foundation provides grants in the fields of secondary and higher education, communication and public opinion, and public policy studies, while also implementing the “US-Japan Leadership Program,” an exchange initiative for young and mid-career professionals.

Peace Winds America is a U.S.-based non-governmental organization engaged primarily in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
