Japan-Honduras Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On October 8, commencing at 11:10 a.m. for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ meeting with H.E. Mr. Javier Efraín Bú Soto, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Honduras, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA welcomed Minister Bú’s visit to Japan as an official guest of the Government of Japan for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, in this commemorative year of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Japan-SICA Friendship Year 2025. Minister IWAYA also expressed Japan’s intention to further develop the strong relationship of trust with Honduras, an important partner for Japan, sharing values and principles.
- In response, Minister Bú expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Japanese side for his first visit to Japan and stated that he was honored to participate in the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Minister Bú also expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields and stated his intention to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena.
- The two ministers confirmed that they will continue to advance bilateral cooperation that contributes to sustainable development in the fields of disaster prevention and infrastructure.
- In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on the situation in East Asia, such as their policies toward North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues and the abductions issue, as well as international challenges including Security Council reform and concurred to strengthen cooperation.
