On September 30, commencing at 3:10 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Raja Dato’ Nushirwan bin Zainal Abidin, Director General of National Security Council of Malaysia, who is visiting Japan under the invitation program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, during the visit to Japan, Director General Nushirwan exchanged views with Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. SUZUKI Hideo, Ambassador for Mekong Cooperation, Mr. MIYAMOTO Shingo, Director-General, Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, and experts and other parties. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA welcomed Director General Nushirwan’s visit to Japan and expressed his hope to further strengthen cooperation with Malaysia acknowledging its important role as the ASEAN Chair.
  2. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as the current regional and international issues, and concurred to work closely together toward regional stability and prosperity, including at the ASEAN-related Summit Meetings to be held next month.
  3. Both sides also exchanged views on the situations of the Cambodia-Thailand border areas. Minister IWAYA expressed his respect for Malaysia's leading role in the recent ceasefire agreement and its subsequent implementation mechanism. Both sides concurred to work more closely together for steady implementation of the ceasefire agreement as well as de-escalation of the tensions.
