Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI’s participation in the First Biennial Summit for a sustainable, inclusive and resilient global economy

On September 24 (local time; September 25 on JST), Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, participated in the First Biennial Summit for a sustainable, inclusive and resilient global economy held during the 80th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.

  1. At this UN-convened meeting, representatives of national governments and international financial institutions participated in the meeting and made statements on the necessary actions and future efforts to finance the SDGs.
  2. From Japan, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI delivered a statement, affirming that Japan will continue to promote multilateralism upholding the concept of human security in pursuit of the SDGs, and emphasizing the importance of cooperation with international financial institutions, mobilization of domestic and private finance, and addressing debt issues in developing countries.

Based on the “Pact for the Future,” the outcome document of the Summit of the Future, this UN-convened meeting was held on the occasion of the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Representatives of Member States and international financial institutions gather to discuss the actions needed and future efforts for financing to achieve the SDGs, with the aim of taking stock of the current state of SDG financing and addressing global challenges through strengthened coordination of the international financial system.
