Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and H.E. Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO

On September 18, commencing at 3:40 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his pleasure at meeting Director-General Azoulay again following his visit to France in May, and paid tribute to her leadership over the past eight years since taking office as Director-General. He also stated Japan’s intention to work together with UNESCO across various fields, including education, science, and culture, to contribute to peace and security in the international community.
  2. In response, Director-General Azoulay expressed her appreciation for Japan’s support for UNESCO’s initiatives across multiple fields during her tenure.
  3. Both sides concurred to continue cooperation in various fields including world heritage.
