Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and H.E. Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO

On September 18, commencing at 3:40 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his pleasure at meeting Director-General Azoulay again following his visit to France in May, and paid tribute to her leadership over the past eight years since taking office as Director-General. He also stated Japan’s intention to work together with UNESCO across various fields, including education, science, and culture, to contribute to peace and security in the international community.
- In response, Director-General Azoulay expressed her appreciation for Japan’s support for UNESCO’s initiatives across multiple fields during her tenure.
- Both sides concurred to continue cooperation in various fields including world heritage.
