The 4th Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Diplomatic Working Group on North Korea’s Cyber Threats

On August 27 and 28, the 4th Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Diplomatic Working Group on North Korea’s Cyber Threats was held in Tokyo. The overview of the working group is as follows:
- This working group was co-chaired by Mr. MIYAKE Fumito, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy and Deputy Director-General of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Jonathan Fritz, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of State of the United States of America, and Ms. Baek Yoon Jeong, Deputy Director-General for International Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The various relevant ministries and agencies of the three countries also attended the working group.
- The three countries reiterated their serious concern over North Korea’s malicious cyber activities including its cryptocurrency thefts and activities by North Korean IT workers, which fund its unlawful weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programs. The three countries held action-oriented discussions on these issues, and confirmed their commitment to advancing tangible efforts against them.
- The three countries reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions including on actions in the cyber field.
