The G7 Foreign Minister’s Telephone Meeting

On August 24, the G7 Foreign Ministers' Telephone Meeting was held for approximately 60 minutes from 9:00 pm. (Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries and the EU High Representative as well as H.E. Mr. Andrii SYBIHA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine attended the meeting. Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended on Minister Iwaya’s behalf, who is currently on a foreign visit.).

In a meeting, on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, the G7 foreign ministers and Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Mr. Sybiha, reaffirmed their solidarity with Ukraine. They also discussed the situation concerning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the prospects for peace, and how to respond to the issue as G7.

The G7 foreign ministers welcomed the creation of opportunities for a just and peaceful resolution to the aggression, under President Trump's leadership. They strongly urged Russia to engage sincerely and promptly in peace negotiations without pre-conditions.

In a message from Minister Iwaya, Japan welcomed Ukraine's active engagement under the proactive initiatives of the United States, and reiterated the importance of the G7’s unity to realize an early ceasefire and to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The ministers decided that they would continue their close communication and coordination.
