Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and Executive Director McCain, WFP

On August 22, commencing at 11:20 a.m. for approximately 10 minutes, IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Ms. Cindy Hensley McCain, Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), in Yokohama. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA stated that Japan intends to cooperate with the WFP -- the UN’s sole food assistance agency -- to respond to humanitarian crises together.
- In response, Executive Director McCain expressed her appreciation for the long-standing and stable partnership between Japan and the WFP, and stated that she looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with Japan.
- The two also exchanged views on promoting the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus and cooperation with Japanese companies.
