Japan-Tanzania Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that he would like to further strengthen relations with Tanzania, which has high economic potential and serves as a gateway for Japanese companies entering East Africa, in a wide range of fields. In response, Minister Kombo referred to the importance of TICAD for Tanzania and high appreciation for Japan’s assistance, and expressed his desire to further develop bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena.
  2. Following that, Minister Iwaya welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation on human resource development in the construction sector and expressed his desire to contribute to Tanzania’s priorities of human resource development and agricultural promotion. Minister Iwaya also requested cooperation in realizing a fair and transparent economic environment, referring to the challenges facing Japanese companies entering Tanzania. In response, Minister Kombo explained Tanzania’s efforts to improve its economic environment and expressed his hope that Japanese companies would further increase their investment in Tanzania, in the fields including new technologies, minerals and agriculture.
  3. The two ministers exchanged views and concurred in closely working together to respond to various regional and international challenges, including their policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues and the abductions issue, as well as the United Nations Security Council reform.
