Courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. IWAYA by Ms. Rossbach, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, UN-Habitat

On August 21, commencing at 6:00 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, UN-Habitat. She visited Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his appreciation for Executive Director Rossbach’s participation in TICAD 9 and commended UN-Habitat’s efforts in addressing the wide range of human settlements challenges in Africa and elsewhere, with its headquarters in Africa.
- Minister IWAYA also stated that ensuring adequate housing and waste management are global challenges, and emphasized the importance of "African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP)", which shares knowledge in waste disposal and develops human resources as a good practice.
- In response, Executive Director Rossbach expressed her gratitude for Japan’s cooperation. Both sides agreed to continue collaborating, including the follow-up on the outcomes of TICAD 9.
