Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI and The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis

On August 21, commencing at 3:05 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI Takuma held a meeting with The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister Miyaji welcomed Minister Douglas’ third visit to Japan for the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis’ National Day of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on August 20.
  2. In response, Minister Douglas expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields and stated that he would like to strengthen bilateral relations as well as cooperation in the international arena.
  3. Both sides concurred to work together on cooperation toward sustainable development, including overcoming the vulnerabilities of CARICOM countries, and to strengthen coordination based on the policy confirmed at the Japan-CARICOM Ministerial-Level Conference in December last year.
  4. Both sides shared the view that freedom, openness, diversity, inclusiveness, and the rule of law are important in leading the international community from division and confrontation toward cooperation, and confirmed that the two countries, which share these principles, will work together in addressing challenges of the situation in East Asia, such as dealing with North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
