Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and Acting Administrator and Associate Administrator Xu, UNDP

On August 20, commencing at 1:20 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Haoliang Xu, UN Under-Secretary-General, Acting Administrator and Associate Administrator, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), who is visiting Japan to attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama. The overview of the curtesy call is as follows:

  1. Minister IWAYA expressed his gratitude for UNDP's contribution as a co-organizer of TICAD, and stated his desire to continue cooperation, including the implementation of human security and further involvement of Japanese companies utilizing UNDP’s expertise in mobilizing private sector funds and technology.
  2. In response, Acting Administrator Xu expressed his gratitude for Japan's contribution to UNDP's activities. He further explained the cooperation with Japan and collaboration with the Japanese private sector and youth.
  3. Both sides concurred to strengthen their strategic partnership, taking TICAD9 as an opportunity.
