Foreign Minister IWAYA’s meeting with the World Bank Group representatives


On August 20, commencing at 12:55 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with the World Bank Group (WBG) representatives, including Mr. Makhtar DIOP, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Mr. MATANO Hiroshi, CEO of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), who are visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister IWAYA expressed his appreciation to WBG’s contribution as a co-organizer of TICAD9, as well as noted that Japan proactively supports WBG’s activities as the second-largest shareholders. In response, Managing Director Diop expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and his expectation to further strengthen collaboration between Japan and the WBG.
- Minister IWAYA expressed his expectation that IFC and MIGA will further collaborate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to increase highly effective development projects that leverage Japanese companies’ technology and expertise. In addition, he stated that Japan would like to continue cooperation with WBG to further promote mobilization of private finance.
- Minister IWAYA requested continued efforts to increase the proportion of Japanese staff. Both sides reaffirmed to continue working closely together for further collaboration.
