Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI and The Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

On August 13, commencing at 10:30 a.m. for approximately 45 minutes, State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI Takuma held a meeting with The Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister Miyaji welcomed Minister Sobers’ first visit to Japan on the occasion of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s National Day of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on August 11.
- In response, Minister Sobers expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields and stated that he would like to strengthen bilateral relations as well as cooperation in the international arena.
- Both sides concurred to work together on cooperation toward sustainable development, including overcoming the vulnerabilities of CARICOM countries, and to strengthen coordination based on the policy confirmed at the Japan-CARICOM Ministerial-Level Conference in December last year.
- Both sides shared the view that freedom, openness, diversity, inclusiveness, and the rule of law are important in leading the international community from division and confrontation toward cooperation, and confirmed that the two countries, which share these principles, will work together in addressing challenges of the regional and international community. Both sides also exchanged their views on the situation in East Asia, such as dealing with North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue. State Minister Miyaji asked for the continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained the strong support from Minister Sobers.
