Exchange of Diplomatic Notes for the Entry into Force of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Italian Republic Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Armed Forces of the Italian Republic

  1. On August 6, in Tokyo, the Government of Japan and the Government of the Italian Republic exchanged diplomatic notes for the entry into force of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Italian Republic Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Armed Forces of the Italian Republic (“Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement”, or ACSA). With this exchange of notes, the Agreement will enter into force on September 5, 2025.

The Agreement establishes a framework such as the settlement procedures for the reciprocal provision of supplies and services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Armed Forces of the Italian Republic. The Agreement will facilitate the smooth and prompt provision of supplies and services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Armed Forces of the Italian Republic. The Agreement was signed on November 25, 2024, in Rome, by Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and the Rt. Hon. Mr. Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defence of the Italian Republic.
  3. The Agreement will also promote closer cooperation between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Armed Forces of the Italian Republic, serving Japan’s security and enabling Japan to actively contribute to peace and security of the international community.
