Meeting between Foreign Minister Iwaya and Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration KACHKA of Ukraine

On August 4, commencing at 2:10 p.m. for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Taras KACHKA, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, who is visiting Japan to attend Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows. H.E. Mr. Andrii SYBIHA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and H.E. Mr. Oleksii SOBOLEV, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine also joined the meeting.
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya expressed his congratulations to Deputy Prime Minister Kachka on his appointment. He stated that Japan would continue to work closely with the international community and the G7 to support Ukraine's efforts for the realization of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
- In addition, Minister Iwaya conveyed that Japan would not waver in its position of standing with Ukraine, and introduced Japan's support and efforts for Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Kachka and Minister Sobolev expressed their gratitude for Japan's wide-ranging support for Ukraine and stated their desire to further deepen cooperation with Japan, including through the opportunity of the Ukraine Mine Action Conference 2025 in October. Minister Iwaya also conveyed Japan's expectation that Ukraine will continue and strengthen its domestic reforms, including anti-corruption measures.
- Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in economic field, including the entry into force of the Tax Convention between Japan and Ukraine on the 1st of this month and progress in investment agreement negotiations, and security fields. They agreed to continue to work closely together.
