From July 27 to 29, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, travelling to New Delhi, India, held meetings with Amb. Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs of India, and others. The overview is as follows:

  1. On July 28th, Vice Minister Funakoshi held a meeting with Amb. Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary:
    1. With an eye on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan scheduled within this year, the two sides confirmed that Japan and India will strengthen bilateral relations in a wide range of areas such as security, economy and people-to-people exchanges. They also confirmed that both countries will further cooperate with each other, including within the framework of Quad (Japan-Australia-India-U.S.) to realize a “free and open Indo-Pacific”.
    2. In addition to bilateral relations, they exchanged views on regional situations and other issues as well and concurred to continue to work closely together.

  2. Vice-Minister Funakoshi also exchanged views on Japan-India relations with Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India.
