Statement by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Miyaji on the occasion of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) Ministerial Segment

On July 23, State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI, who is visiting New York, the U.S., attended the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2025 Ministerial Segment held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters and delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan.
- State Minister MIYAJI stated that, as the international community faces multifaceted crises and increasing fragmentation, the United Nations needs to transform itself to adapt to change and contribute to peace and security. He welcomed the ongoing reforms driven by UN initiatives throughout this year, marking the UN's 80th anniversary.
- State Minister MIYAJI also emphasized that the key to successful reform lies in combining efforts to maintain international peace and security, protect human life and dignity, and advance economic and social development. From this perspective, he highlighted human security as a principle that Japan has consistently supported.
- Furthermore, State Minister Miyaji stated that Japan would continue to prioritize the multilateral system and actively contribute to international discussions on sustainability, under the principle of human security, with a view to the post-2030 period.
