Meeting between State-Minister Miyaji and UNICEF Executive Director Russell

On July 23 commencing at 9:00 a.m. (10:00 p.m. JST on July 23) for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York, U.S., held a meeting with Ms. Catherine Russell, Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). An overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister Miyaji emphasized the crucial role of UNICEF in possessing high visibility and strong communication capabilities. He expressed Japan's desire to continue close cooperation with UNICEF.
  2. In response, Executive Director Russell expressed her gratitude for Japan's vital support for UNICEF amidst the challenges faced by children worldwide. She highly commended Japan's approach to cooperation rooted in human security and expressed her wish to further deepen collaboration with Japan.
  3. Both sides concurred to continue close collaboration on various occasions, including the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).

Furthermore, through its broad and comprehensive activities, it provides humanitarian and development assistance toward the achievement of a wide range of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
