Meeting between State-Minister Miyaji and H.E. Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations

On July 23, State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI Takuma, who is visiting New York, U.S., held a meeting with H.E. Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. An overview of the meeting is as follows:
- State Minister MIYAJI highlighted the importance of human security and stated that strengthening the role of the United Nations is essential amid increasing uncertainty in the international situation. State Minister MIYAJI mentioned that Japan will continue to support multilateralism centered around the United Nations, and also expressed appreciation for the Secretary General’s leadership towards the United Nations reform under UN80 initiative.
- In response, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his gratitude for Japan's support of UN activities.
- Both sides confirmed their intention to continue close cooperation between Japan and the United Nations through such opportunities as the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in August and the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai.
