Dinner with Mr. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, the United Nations, hosted by State Minister FUJII for Foreign Affairs

On July 3rd, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, hosted a dinner with Mr. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, the United Nations, who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, State Minister FUJII stated that while multilateralism faces threats, Japan is committed to it and would like to work with the United Nations. He also referred to peacekeeping and stated that Japan continues to promote capacity-building through the UN Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP).
  2. Mr. Khare expressed his appreciation for Japan’s contributions to the UN TPP, which marks its 10th anniversary and stated that the UN TPP is a cost-effective initiative for international peace and security and that he would like to continue providing high-quality training in collaboration with Japan through the UN TPP.
  3. In addition, the two discussed the current situation of UN reform.

A framework for capacity-building on UN peacekeepers through the cooperation among the United Nations, Supporting Member States, and Troop Contributing Countries. Since former Prime Minister ABE announced our support for the rapid deployment of Peacekeeping operations at the first Leader’s Summit on Peacekeeping held at the UN headquarters in 2024, which triggered the launch of the TPP, Japan has been leading TPP by dispatching instructors for engineering and medical training.
