Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII Hisayuki by Ms. Elisabeth Salmón, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK

On July 2, from 2:50 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, Sate Minister for Foreign Affairs, received courtesy call by Ms. Elisabeth Salmón, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK, who is visiting Japan. The overview of their meeting is as follows:
- State Minister Fujii welcomed Special Rapporteur Elisabeth Salmón’s visit to Japan. He stated that the abductions issue is a common issue of concern for the international community as a whole, and that it is a top priority for the Ishiba administration. He also stated the understanding and cooperation of the international community, including the United Nations, is essential for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue, and asked again for Special Rapporteur’s understanding and cooperation.
- In response, Special Rapporteur Elisabeth Salmón expressed serious concerns over human rights violations by North Korea, particularly abductions issues, and her willingness to continue working closely to address these violations.
