Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto by Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

On May 22, from 11:00 a.m. for about 20 minutes, Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The outline is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto stated that amidst a complex crisis that is deepening divisions and conflicts in the international community, it is necessary to strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and that Japan, in particular, is making every effort to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific." He also stated that Japan would like to further strengthen its strategic partnership with UNDP, which leads the UN in the field of development.
  2. In response, Ms. Wignaraja expressed her gratitude for Japan's consistent support for the UN and UNDP, and stated that she would like to promote cooperation in line with the principles that both Japan and UNDP value, such as human security and the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
  3. The two sides also exchanged views on post-earthquake recovery in Myanmar.
