Telephone Meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI and His Highness Prince Mired of Jordan

On May 22, commencing at 17:15 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with His Highness Prince Mired bin Raad bin Zaid of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.

  1. This telephone meeting was held as a follow-up to the meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI who attended the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) in November 2024, and His Highness Prince Mired, during which they exchanged views on the efforts of the universalization of the APMBC (increase in the number of States Parties) and other related matters.
  2. During the meeting, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI welcomed the ratification of the APMBC by the Marshall Islands in March this year and stated that Japan would continue its efforts to promote the universalization of the Convention, which is one of the priorities of the President of the APMBC’s 22nd Meeting of States Parties (22MSP) this year. In response, His Highness Prince Mired, Special Envoy on the Universalization of the APMBC, expressed appreciation for Japan's efforts as the Presidency, especially regarding the universalization of the APMBC, amid various developments surrounding the Convention.
  3. Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI, stated that Japan would make every effort to ensure the success of the 22MSP, and the two sides confirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Japan and Jordan.
