Courtesy Call on H.E. Mr. Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs IKUINA Akiko

On May 17, from 7:15 p.m. (4:00 p.m. May 17, local time) for approximately 40 minutes, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal, during her visit to Kathmandu, Nepal, to attend the “Sagarmatha Sambaad”. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed her condolences to the victim of the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir, which claimed the life of a young Nepalese, and stated that she strongly condemns all forms of terrorism, and to cooperate with Nepal in the fight against terrorism. In response, Prime Minister Oli expressed his gratitude.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina stated that she would like to think of ways to make Nepal more familiar to Japan in 2026, which is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal. Regarding the people-to-people exchange, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina stated that she would like to create a “flow of human resources” so that Nepalese human resources, many of whom are active in Japan, can contribute to the development of Nepal from their experiences in Japan. Furthermore, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed that Japan would like to continue to cooperate with Nepal in solving its problems.
- Prime Minister Oli welcomed the visit of Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina to Nepal and expressed his gratitude for Japan's participation in the “Sagarmatha Sambaad” as it was meaningful for the success of the conference. Stating that Japan-Nepal relations are good and people-to-people relations are very cordial, Prime Minister Oli expressed his high appreciation for the progress in people-to-people exchanges with Japan. Prime Minister Oli further stated that Japan is a reliable partner and expressed his gratitude for the support from Japan to date in various areas such as road construction, reconstruction from the flood damage, health, and education.
