Japan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On May 9, commencing at 4:00 p.m. (Japan Time) for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Dar explained Pakistan’s position on the situation.
- In response, Minister Iwaya stated that terrorism cannot be justified for any reason and Japan strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. Minister Iwaya also stated that fair investigation and punishment of offenders of the terrorist attack which happened in Kashmir are important.
- Furthermore, Minister Iwaya stated that he feels grave pain when civilian lives are lost in Pakistan and India in the course of the recent series of events. Minister Iwaya also stated that Japan is deeply concerned that they could lead to further reprisals and escalate into a full-scale military conflict and urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and stabilize the situation through dialogue for the peace and stability in South Asia.
